General elections and presidential elections will be held in Burkina Faso on 11 October 2015. Ram Ouedraogo, leader of Rassemblement des Écologistes du Burkina Faso (RDEB), is the Greens candidate for President and the party is running candidates in the general election also.

Ram Ouedraogo is a pioneer of green politics in Africa and this will be the fourth time he has stood for president. In 1998 he came second to incumbent President Blaise Compaoré who was removed from power in October 2014 when he tried to amend the constitution to extend his 27-year term.

Ram has presented his five-year “Ram Emergency Program” (PUR - Plan d’urgence Ram). This program includes actions focusing on economic development, the advancement of women, the health sector, education, arts and culture, amongst others. It also has measures to fight against poverty in Burkina Faso, to promote sustainable development and clean energy and to promote action against climate change.

Ram Ouedraogo counts on the support of many young people and women in his candidacy. Rassemblement des Écologistes du Burkina Faso and the African Greens are working tirelessly to make Ram Ouedraogo the first Green president of Burkina Faso - and therefore the first Green president in the world. They would welcome support from Greens around the world.
