African Greens Mourn the Death of Prof.Wangari Maathai

The African Greens Federation, is deeply saddened by the death of Prof.Wangari Maathai, who passed away on 25th September, 2011, at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya.

She contributed a lot to the formation of the African Greens Federation and was a great source of encouragement to young greens.

We shall always remember her tireless efforts to the betterment of mother earth.

We wish to convey our sincere condolences to her family, members and staff of the Green Belt Movement, Mazingira Green Party of Kenya and the entire African Greens family.

Réunis en Academie Verte à Ouagadougou les 25 et 26 les partis Verts , membres de la Fédération des Verts d' Afrique FEVA ont , Durant les travaux, écouté des rapports des partis du Maroc, du Benin, du Senegal de la Republique Démocratique du Congo, du Mali, du Nigeria, de l'Angola du Niger, du Burkina Faso, du Ghana et du Rwanda

Ayant en outre discuté du Programme de la fédération pour l' exercice 2012-2015, ils ont convenu d'alimenter ce dernier a partir des conclusions retenues des débats politiques qui se sont déroulés le 26 Juin

African Greens' Acadamy - Communique

Met during the African Greens Academy in Ouagadougou the 25th and 26th June 2011, members of the African Greens, during their work, received Country Reports from: Morocco, Benin, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Nigeria, Angola, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Rwanda. Togo and Ivory Coast were excused.

Members also discussed the African Greens program from 2012- 2015. It was decided to feed this through the conclusions of the political debate that would happen the 26th June.

During the political debates, nine themes were analysed, these are:

TUNISIA: African Greens Federation calls for Peace and Non-Violence

Based on the African Green Charter's principle of Non-Violence and Participatory Democracy;

In solidarity with the Opposition Tunisian Green Party (Parti Tunisie Verte);

The African Greens Federation is deeply concerned by the escalating violence and unrest in Tunisia and calls upon the;

  1. Tunisian Government to take all urgent measures and solve the underlying problems to the on-going protests and restore peace and democracy for the Tunisian people.
  2. People of Tunisia to do their best and solve their problems in a peaceful and non-violent manner.

Resolution regarding Mrs. Fatima Alaoui and North Africa

The Executive Committee of the Federation during its meeting on 20th September 2010: Reconfirmed the suspension of Mrs Fatima Alaoui's participation in any correspondence appearing on the shared site of AGF. It also Reconfirmed the decision that Mrs Fatima Alaoui be replaced immediately as the AGF representative for North Africa by Dr. Mohamed Awad of the Egyptian Greens party.

Security Threat to Frank HABINEZA

On Thursday 4th February 2010, around 15 30 hrs at Hotel Leprentemps in Kimironko, Kigali City, i was intimidated and threatened by an un-known man, whom I suspected to be a security operative.

I had gone to the hotel to met a colleague : Jean Paul MUDAHERANWA aka. Sunday. When I arrived, I observed the presence of two other men. One of them left in about 10 minutes.
