FINAL PRESS RELEASE OF THE 4th AFRICAN GREENS FEDERATION CONGRESS

The African Greens Federation held its 4th Congress at Hotel RELAX in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from the 10th to the 12th May 2018, under the theme: « Green Politics for a Sustainable Africa ».

Congress participants came from the following countries: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Mauritius had been invited but the delegates had last minutes airport issues which made it impossible for them to come.

The Congress had a full three days agenda, which included approving new members, presentation and approval of different reports and election of different office bearers.

During the opening ceremony we had welcoming remarks from the President of the Green Party of Burkina Faso (RDEBF), welcoming remarks of the AGF Secretary General, the President of Green Forum, the Vice-president of Global Greens, the Leader of Opposition in Burkina Faso, representative of the governing coalition and lastly the opening remarks from the President of the African Greens Federation (AGF).

After approving the new members and confirming the decisions regarding those who did not pay their membership fees, the participants at the Congress discussed and approved several reports and communications specially the activities report, the financial report, the internal and external audit reports and the future program with Green Forum Foundation.

Thereafter, participants continued with the amendment of the AGF documents (the Constitution, the Internal Rules and Procedures and the Procedural and Financial Manual) and their adoption.   

After hearing a presentation of the African Greens Representative in Global Young Greens Coordination, the participants proceeded with electing the office bearers.

After the elections, the new President of the Executive Council, presented to the congress, the new team of the Permanent Secretariat, selected upon their competences to manage the daily work of the Federation and headed by an Executive Director.  It is composed of the following:

  3. Executive Secretary: Ms. Fatoumata Boussim from Burkina Faso
  4. Accounting Secretary: Ms. Aida SORE from Burkina Faso

After adopting a motion of Thanks to the Government of Burkina Faso, the People of Burkina Faso, the leaders, the members and Sympathizers of the Green Party of Burkina Faso, the Congress was closed with a general satisfaction of the delegates. 

The 5th Congress of the African Greens is planned to take place in the Democratic Republic of Congo in May 2022.
