End of year message of African Greens Federation in 2017.

The Board members of the African Greens Federation wishes to thank all party leaders, the entire membership, all international partners and friends for all the great accomplishments during 2017.

During 2017, the federation consolidated its gains and strengthened its regional structures and international networks.

The year was started by serious planning of the Global Greens Congress which was held in Liverpool-UK, between 30th March-2nd April. The African Greens Federation was able to send 40 delegates to this Global Congress and held an African meeting in Liverpool on 28th and 29th March 2017, which came up with several resolutions and statements for the African congregation. It should be recalled that the previous, Global Congress, had been held on the African continent, in Dakar, Senegal, between March-April 2012.

AGF conducted several capacity building programs for its regional federations. The Swedish Green Forum supported the Southern African Greens Federation’s regional training on election and campaigns in Zimbabwe from 15th-16th August 2017 and the Central African Greens Federation’s regional meeting and training in Congo-Brazzaville, from 30th-31st October 2017.

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy-UK, supported the East African Greens Federation’s regional workshop on elections and media in Mukono-Uganda from 29th June-2nd July 2017. The meetings of EAGF Youth Network (EAGF-YN) and EAGF Women Network (EAGF-WN) were also concurrently held after the regional campaign meeting.

The Belgian Greens (Groen) continued supporting the West African Greens Federation. Two regional workshops on elections and campaigns took place in Dakar/Senegal from 15th-17th September and in Abidjan-Ivory Coast, from 11th-13th December 2017.

The North African Greens Federation was unable to conduct its planned activities due to technical reasons.

WAY FORWARD

AGF plans to continue capacity building programs for different regional federations but with the focus of planning and holding the African Greens Congress in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2018.

On behalf of the African Greens Federation, we wish to thank you all for supporting the growth of the Green Movement in Africa and wish you all a joyful holiday season and a prosperous new year 2018, may it be a year of greater realizations.
