REPORT FOR THE 2nd AFRICAN GREENS CONGRESS

28th -29th March, 2012, Dakar, Senegal

The African Greens Second Congress was held between 28th-29th March in Dakar, Senegal at Centre BCEAO. It was hosted by ‘Fédération Démocratique des Ecologistes du Sénégal (FEDES)’ and was done a few days before the third Global Greens Congress.

Le deuxième congrès des Verts africains avait lieu du 28 au 29 mars à Dakar, au Sénégal au Centre BCEAO.

Hébergé par la Fédération Démocratique des Ecologistes du Sénégal (FEDES), ce congrès avait lieu quelques jours avant le 3ème Congrès des Verts mondiaux.

Résolution  Portant  Suspension de Docteur Idris Muslim des activités de  la FeVA et  de celles des représentants des ONG Environnementales des instances de la FeVA et des  Fédérations régionales

Les membres du Conseil d’Administration de la Fédération des Partis Verts d’Afrique, réunis le 16 avril par conférence téléphonique « Skype » 

-         Considérant que les derniers messages de Dr Idris sur le réseau sont porteurs de germes de division de  la FEVA ;

-         Considering that the recent messages from Dr.Idris on the network carry the seeds of division of the AGF ;

Today, 5th April 2012, the African Greens family received wonderful news that one of our own, Mr.El Ali Haidar, President, Fédération Démocratique des Ecologistes du Sénégal (FEDES), has been appointed the Minister of Environment and Nature Protection by the newly democratically elected  President, H.E. Macky Sall.

During the 2nd African Greens Congress on 29th March 2012 in Dakar, Senegal, members adopted several resolutions and thereafter, requested the 3rd Global Greens Congress to consider the following:

           Resolution from Mali:

-          Condemning the military coup-d’état that took place on 22 March 2012.

-          Call for the protection and restoration of the national constitution of 25th February 1992

-          Call for immediate and unconditional release of all political and military prisoners

The President of African Greens Federation, Frank Habineza, warmly welcomes you all to the 3rd Global Greens Congress in Senegal. This will be the first one to be held in Africa. Other details can be found from: www.dakar2012.org, www.africangreens.org and www.globalgreens.org

6 March
The run-off election has been set for Sunday 25 March, with results due on 28 March. We are evaluating the implications for the Congress which begins on 29 March and will provide another update before the end of the week.

2 March
President Abdoulaye Wade and second-placed opposition candidate Macky Sall will contest a run-off Presidential election in mid-March. The first round of the election was completed peacefully on Friday with Wade gaining 35% and Sall 27% of the vote.

The violent crackdown by the Syrian regime on un-armed protestors is claiming innocent lives. The excessive military intervention is aimed at aborting people’s demands for change and political, economical, social reformation in their effort to enable and lead the Syrian people to great hopes and ambitions. The African Greens Federation strongly condemns these barbaric acts and confirms its support to the Syrian people demanding democratic governance.
